Host a NAEDA-Sanctioned Competition

NAEDA sanctions equality partner dance competitions that comply with NAEDA standards and competition rules. Sanctioning helps maintain consistent competition standards while supporting opportunities for equality dancers to compete throughout North America.

Types of Sanctions

One-Time Sanction
Intended for a specific competition that will take place once on a specific date.

Recurring Sanction
Intended for a specific competition that will recur annually or biannually at approximately the same time.

Sanctioning Requirements

To receive and maintain NAEDA sanctioning, a competition must comply with NAEDA standards and rules in effect at the time the sanction is approved. Sanctions are granted for a specific event, geographic region, and date or time frame.

NAEDA may limit the number of sanctioned competitions within a particular time period or geographic region to help provide dancers and competitors with opportunities to participate in as many events as possible.

Sanctioned competitions must also meet the following requirements:

• Competition organizers must maintain an active NAEDA organizational membership and comply with all applicable NAEDA rules and regulations.
• Any changes to the competition’s date, location, name, or responsible organizer(s) must be reported to NAEDA in a timely manner. Failure to report changes may result in withdrawal of the sanction.
• A NAEDA sanction applies only to the competition for which it was granted and may not be transferred to another event or competition.
• A sanctioned competition may not offer titles using the word “Championship” unless those titles have been separately authorized or approved by NAEDA. The granting of a competition sanction does not automatically authorize championship titles.
• Competition organizers must announce in advance the definition of Pro-Am used for the competition, if applicable; what Pro-Am participation is permitted; and how Pro-Am participation will be handled and judged. Organizers are expected to follow their announced policies and procedures.
• Within 60 days following a sanctioned competition, organizers must submit competition information to NAEDA, including the competition name, date and location, organizer contact information, judging panel, and results and scores for all competition events.
